Clips from Learning to Crawl/3 recorded living room performances/3 perspectives/ 2020
A lightweight frame, a hand sewn shell made from mom’s medical paraphernalia, protects the fleshy body beneath. Baby oil soaks stockings at the knees, elbows and tops of feet. Improvised choreography of snail dances executed across the living room floor. Movement connects her to the somatic resonance tuned by trauma, vibrating beneath the surface. Bound by stockings, contained by the performance of this vessel, holding space for her under this skin.
Exhibition view, MFA Degree Show, Goldsmiths, University of London, 2020
WEARABLE SCULPTURE
In the vessel of a snail she moves across the living room floor.
Tied to her back, a plastic shell, a hand sewn cover, protects the fleshy body beneath.
Detached from the vessel, pinned against the wall, they hang,
bloated bellies.
